You are never alone in the vineyard, there are always many varieties of birds around and we also have a family of Kangaroos who pass-by in the neighbouring row, or you may come across them sprawled out in the sunshine, when you are shoot thinning the vines in spring. They add an amazing energy to the vineyard, so close but always out of reach.
In some conventional vineyards Kangaroos are a pest, they can be very distructive eating young shoots on the vines and chewing on the irrigation lines for a drink.
I am not sure if it is because we have a permanent ground cover and they have the river so close, but we don’t have any problems with them, they are a welcome addition to the vineyards.
